The steel at the service of renewable energy<\/h2>\n

It is interesting to note how steel, the most recycled material in the world, plays a part in the construction of various types of plants: from wind power to biomass systems, from photovoltaic systems to hydroelectric and geothermal systems.<\/p>\n

In terms of renewable sources in particular, wind energy is still the second source of energy production capacity in Europe (dati windeurope.org<\/u><\/a>)<\/p>\n

When talking about wind generated energy, we tend to think of it as a recent discovery. As a matter of fact, the history of this energy source can be traced back to 3000 B.C., and it is linked to the navigation of sailing boats and to the creation of the windmill. Scientific and technological developments led to the creation of wind turbines, mechanical devices that produce energy by means of the rotation of blades caused by the force of the wind.<\/p>\n

A wind farm built up with Pittini\u2019s Jumbo\u00ae<\/h2>\n

The Pittini Group\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>has contributed to the construction of wind turbines, specifically of the plinths<\/strong><\/span>, i.e. the square or rectangular shaped reinforced concrete blocks<\/strong><\/span> which are positioned under the wind turbines and function as a foundation. Pittini’s Jumbo\u00ae hot rolled coils were used in the manufacturing of the plinths which are installed on the border between Puglia and Basilicata in the municipality of Bisaccia (Avellino). This is a type of construction steel that represents an innovation from many angles: the compact and regular packaging, the uniformity of its mechanical characteristics, the elimination of waste during processing, the reduced dimensions for transport and storage.<\/p>\n

Numerous wind plants have been installed in the province of Avellino (Campania)<\/span><\/strong>.
