Work on the water systems of the Group&#8217;s factories has primarily focused on the purification of water sources to regenerate its quality back to process requirements and feed it back into the plants, thus preventing water from being drained (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pittini.it\/en\/sustainability\/environment\/\">Zero Waste Water<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this respect, the WHAM project (<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/research-and-innovation\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/funding-programmes-and-open-calls\/research-fund-coal-and-steel-rfcs_en\">RFCS<\/a> project) is developing an innovative <strong>antibacterial water treatment<\/strong> processing system which utilizes fibre optics and ultraviolet light generated by LED lights (which are energy-efficient).<\/p>\n<h2>Sustainable water management and reducing water use<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the Pittini Group&#8217;s manufacturing sites, water is mainly employed in order to cool the systems and for the processing of semi-finished and finished products. With the objective of reducing the consumption of this natural resource, the WHAM project partners and the Pittini Group have designed a water purification system consisting of dense stainless steel mesh, which is subject to ultraviolet beams which optimises the <strong>filtration of any suspended solids<\/strong> circulating in the water systems. This advanced process guarantees high-quality water which can be recirculated throughout the production process. The future goal is to also apply this method to rainwater which will result in additional reductions in water use.<\/p>\n<h2>Automation in sustainable water managementua<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An additional objective for the Pittini Group is to optimise the management of water flows between the several circuits as a result of the development of an extensive sensor system and the implementation of advanced software to reduce water intake, drainage as well as energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Work is currently underway with the partners of the WHAM project to develop Artificial Intelligence-based sensors and implement software to <strong>track the water used in industrial processes<\/strong>.
