Ferriere Nord è uno storico complesso industriale siderurgico, presente nell’area di Rivoli di Osoppo dai primi anni Sessanta. Oggi una delle più innovative e performanti acciaierie elettriche in Europa grazie al know-how interno, ai crescenti investimenti in ambito tecnologico e l’attenta politica di sostenibilità ambientale.

Il sito industriale comprende un'acciaieria a forno elettrico, un laminatoio barre per la produzione di acciaio per cemento armato, l’impianto per la laminazione della vergella e gli stabilimenti per la produzione di rete elettrosaldata e traliccio. Completano i siti produttivi la palazzina direzionale, le aree di servizio logistico e quelle per la valorizzazione dei materiali secondari ottenuti dal ciclo di produzione dell’acciaio.

Ferriere Nord is a well-known industrial steel works, established in the locality of Rivoli di Osoppo since the early 60s. Today it is one of the most innovative and performing electric Steel Mills in Europe, thanks to its internal know-how, the increasing technologic investments and the careful policy for environmental sustainability.

The industrial complex includes an electric Steel Mill, a bar Rolling Mill for the productions of steel for reinforced concrete, a wire rod mill and the works for the production of electro welded meshes and lattice girders. Furthermore there is an office building, logistic areas and those for the processing of secondary materials obtained through the steel production cycle.

Siderpotenza was established in 1963 and is part of the Pittini Group since 2002, the site includes a Steel Mill and a bar Rolling Mill. Today the company is one of the main steelworks in southern Italy, and it is a landmark for the production of rebars.

In this plant the Green Steel project has recently been launched: this is an important plant renovation plan, where the lowest common denominator is the improvement of the effects of the production activity on the environment through the implementation of innovative technologies.

The Rolling Mill is the department that produces rebars through the hot rolling of billets coming from the Steel Mill. The rebar is thermally processed through a water system (Thermex) that assures the obtainment of the desired mechanical features, especially of high ductility, which is a fundamental feature for aseismic building.

It has a high energy efficiency and an extraordinary flexibility that responds to the continuous market requests.

The department, in synergy with the Steel Mill and with the auxiliary services identifies any necessary optimization measure.

The careful check of production processes and the high technological level of the facilities are a very good example of efficiency and quality.

The Logistics Office is the distribution hub of the plant.

The loading and unloading activities are performed in a equipped internal and external area. These activities refer both to specific products of La Veneta Reti an of products produced by the Pittini Group, to give the customers a complete service.

The specific type of special and customized meshes, of coils and bars led to the development od specific packaging methods as well as specific loading and unloading activities with suitable machines and dedicated equipment. The availability of personnel, means and equipment, experience of the operators and working hours makes the timing an important feature of the distribution service of the plant in Loreggia.

The objective of the Sales Department is the development of the national and international wire rod market.

The main tasks of this department range from the management of the existing customers during all sales stages, to the search and analysis of new market opportunities in order to assess and acquire new customers.

The search of new markets and new customers is done also through the attendance of events and fairs in close cooperation with the Marketing Office.

The Sales Department in also in charge of product development activities in close cooperation with the Quality Department

The department works on a daily basis in close contact with the Production Planning Department and the Logistics Office as well as with the Finance Office.

The Cold Rolling Department is the core department of the factory. The departments are organized in a cascade starting from the raw material, which is the wire rod produced by the other plants of the Group, that is transformed into coils, rebars and bars that are the elements from which through the electro welding the electro welded meshes are obtained.

According to the type of mesh to produce, the production process is performed through specific machineries.

The wide array of electro welded meshes produced in the plant require a high precision and quality while respecting the regulatory standard in force. This allowed the realization on an efficient tracking system that enables to fully identify the products, thus guaranteeing the maximum quality and reliability for the customer.

The Quality Department is the reference point for all analysis performed in the plant.

The department avails itself of highly competent and qualified staff that, following all production stages, is in charge of analysing the steel produced from a chemical, technological and microstructural point of view.

The outcome of these analysis are used for the drawing up of testing certificates that accompany the delivered goods.

The personnel of the department furthermore monitors the various production processes within the plant. The Quality Department is indeed responsible for the drafting of the construction cards for the production departments, thus supporting them.

Besides the production department, the Quality Department works in close contact also with the Production planning Department, the Logistics Office, the Sales Department and the Corporate Quality Department

The Sales Department of SIAT has the objective to distribute the finished products all over the world through a spread customer management and customer care service.

The Sales Department Is divided in Italian and Foreign Market. This is due to the fact that the markets and the consequent commercial conditions, besides the strategic measures taken, have different modalities and needs according to the specific geographic area.

Besides the management of existing customers, the main tasks are the search and analysis of opportunities on new markets, the assessment and acquisition of new customers and the following stages of negotiation. To this goal the sales team participates actively in events and fairs of out business sector.

The Sales Department furthermore handles the after-sale actions and, together with the Quality Office, identifies the new products and their new applications.

The Sales tasks include also the coordination activities for customer lending, credit recovery and the product quality analysis.

The Italy Sales Office includes also the local agencies that assure a spread coverage of the Italian market and a continuous monitoring of the actions taken by our competitors.

Due to its function and scope of activity the Sales Department works in close contact specially with the Raw Material Purchase Department, the Production planning Department. the Logistics Department and the Credit Management and Finance Units.

The Sales Department of Pittarc is responsible for the following products:

GMAE and SAW welding wires, welding flaws and copper coated wire.

The objective is to fully follow the customers from the search of customers on international level, through the drafting of offers up to the after-sales measures.

The department is made up of two main areas: the Back Office, that is in common to all products, and the Front Office that besides submitting the offers, takes also care of the quality and technical aspects of the offered products in order to achieve the best possible customer satisfaction.

The main activities include the daily handling of the orders in place, the search and assessment of new customers on national, European and Extra-European level. the analysis of technical needs and finally the drafting of the technical and commercial offer for the finalization of the order. IN order to promote the Pittarc brand all over the world, the Sales Department takes part in national and international fairs of our business sector.

Together with the Production planning Department and the Logistics Department the department handles the delivery of the orders and the after-sale activities, and works every day in close contact with the production departments, Quality Department and Administration Department

The HSE Office is a strategic company resource to ensure the continuous improvement of environmental, health and safety performances of the employees.

The Environment Area mainly deals with the constant monitoring of the environmental matrixes identifying criticalities and opportunities for improvement in order to reduce and prevent the environmental impact of the company.

The Safety Area is responsible to identify and assess the risks connected to the working activity. They suggest to the Management the suitable protection measures for a technical, organizational and procedural point of view that can be concretely applied for the management of the residual risks.

The synergies between Environment and Safety Units allows to face daily issues and promote the growth and the improvement of the facilities keeping the right balance between prevention, wellbeing on the work place and containment of emissions in the environment.

Through the tools of the management system certified according to ISO 14001 regulations the Environment & Safety Det. pursues its goals. The cornerstones of its activity are the proximity to the employees, the development of the internal skills and the constant analysis of all issues.

In order to achieve these results the department works in close contact with all plant functions, from the single employees up to the Management.

The Quality Department assures a high standard of the products in order to meet customer requirements.

There is a chemical and geotechnical laboratory and a laboratory for mechanical tests.

The main tasks refer to the chemical analysis of steel and of the main part of strategical materials, as well as the check of Steel Mill secondary products and the environmental monitoring.

The mechanical tests are mainly focussed to assess the resistance and the ductility of steel.

Furthermore many tests are performed on Granella®, and on the cooling system waters.

The activities performed by the laboratory support different company functions such as the production department and the sales department, since there is a constant interaction to ensure high product standards. The quality of the products realized by the Group companies derives from the technological innovation of the production processes and is assured by an accurate control system of all stages of the Steel Making.

Since over 40 years the Production Department produces steel welding wires under gas protection and submerged arc welding wires sold under the Pittarc brand. In addition to these products there is drawn wire, with or without copper coating, for the manufacturing industry.

All products are obtained through the cold processing of wire rod, that is the raw material for Pittarc, and the main technological processes are the cold drawing or the cold rolling, which are necessary to reduce the diameter of the wire rod up to the required diameter of the finished product.

Besides the above mentioned processing there are also the pickling and copper coating treatments, the packaging in cans, coils or bundles.

In all production lines the process is controlled to guarantee the compliance with the strict quality requirements we have set. In the plant there is also a chemical-physical treatment, which is an auxiliary facility of the production process.

The production department cooperates with the operating departments that are responsible for the management of the wire rod yard, the receiving and delivery of goods and the maintenance.

The offices supporting the production include the Production planning Department and the Quality Department

The vast array of products in the product list (over thirty items of welding wires) is made possible by the big flexibility of the production lines and by the technical skills of the personnel.

The HSE Office takes care of environmental issues and of health and safety measures for the whole plant, through the application of the relevant management systems for the achievement of company goals.

The safety unit in particular ensures the compliance with the regulations in force and the control of the workplace, that shall be safe for all employees. Risk analysis are carried out and based on them the most suitable measures are planned to protect both the people in the workplace as well as the communities in the neighbouring areas.

The maintenance of the safety standards is ensured by the continuing training of personnel, with the objective to increase the risk awareness of the employees, encourage the implementation of safety measures and increase the sense of responsibility of the individual.

The Environment Area takes care of the respect of the regulations in force as well as of the provisions of the Integrated Environmental Authorization (AIA) through the adoption of the certified environmental system pursuant to UNI ISO 14001:2015 regulations. The containment of emission of each environmental matrix (air, water, soil, noise, emissions and waste), the rational use of resources and the management of the production facilities aiming at a continuous improvement of the impact on the environment are the main goals that Pittini Group sets every day, through a constant research and innovation process.

The Mechanical Workshop, under the perspective of a continuous renovation of the production facilities and of the factory general services, plays a fundamental role in the support for an effective and efficient use of the system.

As for the mechanical part there are different areas for the management of the spare parts, the immediate response, planned and foreseeable maintenance, the department acts proactively to identify the future needs. The Workshop is also involved in the organization and realization of projects concerning new investments on the plant.

La Veneta Reti is an well-known company of the industrial area of Loreggia. The company produces electro welded meshes and drawn wires for construction purposes.

The company has been part of the Pittini Group since 1990 and is now a reference point on the Italian market for the production of special and customized meshes, and is able to meet the various needs of the customers.

The plant serves also a distribution hub of accessory products such as drawn wires, rebars and Jumbo® coils.

The efficient production and distribution service make La Veneta Reti a reliable partner in the building sector.

The Health and Safety Area has the objective to oversees in a thorough and complete manner all the activities concerning the Health & Safety of the operators on the work place.

The objective is to reach a constantly keep high standards with reference to the supporting technologies, the selection of suitable materials and equipment, the identification of specific assessment services and for the refining procedures applied in the context of production.

The unit takes care of the compliance with the various applicable regulations, performs effective activities on site, together with the operators, to find out the improvements to apply in order to promote a general increase of the culture of health and safety in the production areas.

The Quality Department is a function made up of personnel that in a competent and punctual manner work in the Control Quality, in the Quality Assurance and in the Quality Management System certified pursuant to ISO 9001:2015, This function is responsible, based on the industry regulations and technical specifications, for product certifications and type approval.

Through the Quality Management System it handles all company processes, through an organizational model, shared by all company departments, that is efficient, effective and integrated in order to meet the product and customer requirements.

The main tasks of the Quality team include the control over the incoming materials, during the production activities and on the finished products before they are put on the market. This department carries out the lab analysis, issues the product control certificates and supports the research for a continuous innovation of the production processes and of the products. Furthermore it supports the sales Department from a technical point of view in the before and after sale stage.

Working in the Quality Department means being successful, working with people, who work with satisfaction, and finding responses to the needs of the final customer.

The Maintenance Unit is the function where all facilities maintenance and efficiency measures are taken. They have the task to adjust and, when possible, constantly improve the systems to the needs of the respective users, and when necessary redesign and replace them, when other systems prove to be better.

The department includes two different units: mechanical and electrical units, as well as an assembly workshop and a spare parts warehouse.

The main tasks concern the study and analysis of the facilities, the scheduling of regular actions to be taken and a constant cooperation with the various production departments to ensure continuous improvements in terms of efficiency and system performance.

It is indeed necessary to plan and design these activities through the drafting of a preventive maintenance plan aiming at avoiding corrective measures due to unpredictable breakdowns. Therefore it is necessary that the personnel has the necessary competences and that they are constantly trained to be able to coordinate the measures to be taken in order to assure production continuity and the desired levels of facility availability.

The Steel Mill is the first production department involved in the steelmaking process, and takes care of the transformation of the iron scrap into billets. In the scrap yard the scrap is unloaded, selected and stored. The scrap will be then melted in the electric arc furnace (EAF). afterwards there is the refining in the ladle furnace (LF), that allows to adjust the crude steel according to the requirements of the construction card. The last stage is performed by the continuous casting machine (CCM), where the liquid steel through pouring and solidification into the ingot mould is transformed into billet, that will be further processed in the Rolling Mill.

This process of steelmaking through the melting of the iron scrap in the electric furnace produces a material called Steel Mill slag, mainly composed of iron oxides, calcium and Silicium combined in a crystalline partly vitreous form and steel drops. Through a specific production process the slag is turned into Granella® ,used for the production of bituminous and cement conglomerates, which are highly resistant and draining.

The Rolling Mill transforms the billet produced in the Steel Mill into wire rod. This process consists in rolling the billet in a series of gauges to reduce its diameter to the desired dimension. The reduction of the diameter, called rolling, causes a stretching of the material and an increase of production speed that might exceed 100m/s (360 km/h).

The new fully automated facility works in a continuous cycle with 4 production shifts in 24 hours and is backed by a multidisciplinary staff. It also follows the implementation of the new projects, of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance as well as the preparation of the facilities according to the type of production.

The Logistics Office is the function that takes care of the movement of incoming goods, such as raw materials and production-related materials, and of outgoing goods. i.e. finished products to be delivered to the customers or materials to be disposed.

The office also manages the flows of material inside the plant and of the optimization of the relating transportation costs.

The office is mainly made up of two units: the Shipping Unit and the Internal Logistics Unit.

The Shipping Unit received the sales orders and organizes the road, railway or intermodal transports. Since this unit is in direct contact with the transporters and with the Sales Department, it checks the availability of the goods on stock and chooses the carrier according to the means of transport and the economic convenience, thus monitoring also the level of service towards the customers.

The Internal Logistics Unit takes care of internal movements, both by road and by train., of the materials that are necessary for the production and of the finished products to be delivered to the customers.

The Logistics Office work in close contact especially with the Sales Department, the Production Planning Department, the Raw Material Purchase Department, the Environment & Safety Department and the Management Control Department

The Plant Technical Office defines, plans and realizes the main investment plants on the plant, and they take care of the implementation and maintenance of common services for the production departments.

The department is made up of four main units: facilities, mechanical systems, electrical systems and common services unit. In each single unit work specialized technicians.

Every employee can take the role of Project Manager and coordinate the designing, planning and execution of projects, both from a technical point of view and with reference to the handling of building sites and contract works.

The Plant Technical Office are in charge of projects that concern various ambits from infrastructure (construction or restructuring of industrial building, works on the internal road network, railway stations, technological networks), to facilities (office buildings or service buildings, green area, environmental projects), up to the technological upgrade of production facilities.

The department works in close contact with the Group Technical Office and with different company departments according to the projects, and is a point of reference in the interfunctional working teams.

The Steel Mill is the first department involved in production and transforms the recycling iron scrap into semi-finished products called billets.

The first stage of the process is the electric arc furnace (EAF), where thanks to the melting power of the electric arc the scrap is brough into a liquid state. The liquid steel is then refined in the ladle furnace (LF) to meet the chemical and technical requirements.

The solidification stage occurs in the continuous casting machine, where the liquid steel is cooled down while passing in a copper ingot mould, where it takes the form of a parallelepiped. This way billets are produced and will be further processed in the Rolling Mill.

The production process of the Steel Mill is made up of different facilities, that are managed by production operators, who monitor from the pulpit the activities. An important role is performed by the electrical and mechanical maintenance, that through their ordinary and extraordinary actions allows the continuous running of the department.

The safeguard of health and environment is the cornerstone of a professional and technological growth that allows to assure production continuity in the urban area of Verona.

The HSE Office takes care of the improvement of environmental impacts and backs and supports the plant in the organization od safety measures on company premises through the implementation of a system the ensures to all workers an healthy and sale work place.

The HSE Office is made up of an Health & Safety Service (Health & Safety Manager and Health & Safety Service Operators) and of specialized HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) technicians, and cooperates with all company functions and relates to the Corporate HSE Office.

The Environmental Area deals also with the containment of emissions, the rational use of resources, the sustainable management of the facilities and its correct inclusion in the surrounding area, energy efficiency and the mitigation of the environmental impact of the plant.

The Safety Area instead assesses the risks to prevent accidents, professional diseases and dangerous situations. The analysis and assessment of all risks is performed through the knowledge and reference to the regulations in force, of legal provisions and technical rules, and above all through regular inspections for on-site prevention involving the heads of department and the workers as well. The continuous improvement of the performances of the Environmental and Safety Department are pursued through the integrated management system certified pursuant to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 regulations. Furthermore the environmental performances are published in the EMAS Environmental Declaration.

SIAT is one of the main European producers of flat cold drawn wires obtained from low and medium carbon wire rod, thanks to the 50-year-long experience gathered in this sector, the constant engagement in research and the continuous investment in the facilities.

The integration of the production process within the Pittini Group furthermore allows to check the quality of the finished product at all stages: from the production of billet to the following rolling of the wire rod.

The Pittarc Division is specialized in the production of welding wires under gas protection and submerged arc welding wires. Also in this case the synergy with the other companies of the Pittini Group enabled the development of cutting-edge technologies and systems that allow to obtain high quality products.

The Cold Rolling Department produces through cold work processing coils starting from the wire rod produced in the Rolling Mill.

All products are made of steel for reinforced concrete and their features meet the regulations in force in the target countries.

The production unit realizes what has been planned by the Production planning Department, optimizing the setting of the production lines and thus ensuring a high quality of the products.

The working shifts are organized to optimize production and the operators are supported by the Maintenance Unit that ensures the constant and efficient functioning of the facilities with complying with the regulations in the field of safety on the workplace, and assuring to the company the necessary competitiveness.

The Logistics Office takes care of the management of flows in the different stages, from the suppliers to the customers. There are mainly two flows: products flow and information flow.

The goal is to optimize transportation costs and the level of service, delivering the goods to the customer within the set terms at the lowest cost possible.

The office is divided in two units: acceptance unit, that checks the transport documentation of the incoming vehicles, and manages the queues for the loading/unloading and takes care of the billing to ensure the exit of the vehicles.

In the plant there are four loading pints for the rebar and a loading point for the semi-processed product (billet).

The office works in close contact with other company functions such as the Administration and Finance Department, the Management Control Department, the Raw Material Purchase Department, the Sales Department and the Production Planning Department A continuing training and the close synergy with the other professionals assure every day the achievement of the set company objectives and the satisfaction of each single customer.

The Technical Office takes care about the definition, planning, managing and realization of investment projects and big maintenance works on the plant.

The office supports the production and maintenance departments realizing changes to the facilities and the production equipment.

The office is divided into three different units: mechanical, building and electric unit. The projects range from the infrastructures (new construction or restructuring of sheds and buildings, works on the internal road system, service areas, sewage system), to the facilities (installation of processing facilities), up to activities connected to building works and utilities (installation and adjustment of cooling systems, production of compressed air, technical gases, lighting and facility management).

The office works in close contact with different company department, that take charge of the activities in a multidisciplinary perspective.

The Administration Office is in charge of economic operations, processes the data for the drawing up of regular financial and economic reports and sets out the company procedures concerning civil-law and fiscal matters.

The department is split up in 5 different units. The first unit, Suppliers' Accounting and Accounts Payable Unit, records purchase invoices, the payments to suppliers and handles the investment and business assets orders. The Credit management and Customers Accounting Unit is responsible of the assessment of lending to customers, of the monitoring and management of accounts receivables as well as of invoicing. The Accounts and Tax Unit is in charge of drafting the Financial Statements, the consolidated Statements, as well as the regular interim reports. They also take care of tax obligations and company's books. The fourth unit, Subsidized Financings, identifies and handles the subsidies foreseen at national and European Union's level for investments. Then the Legal & Social Affairs Unit supports the company with reference to legal and contract-related issues.

Since the Administration Department supports the Management, it operates independently but works in close contact with the other company functions giving general instructions for the functioning of the whole organization.

The Purchasing Office sets out the supply and contract agreements, in order to make sure that the materials and services needed for the production are delivered according to the quality parameters, within the set deadlines and under the best market conditions. The personnel assures the purchase of various types of products, including non ferrous raw materials (ferroalloys, lime, electrodes and refractory items), energy utilities, ancillary materials and spare parts for the machineries. This function is also responsible for corporate contract agreements, being maintenance, services of investment job orders.

The office is constantly searching for new potential suppliers, analysis the performances of the current suppliers (in terms of punctuality, quality and flexibility). Furthermore they negotiate and set out the agreements, plan the delivery of the goods and monitor the respect of the conditions through auditing activities carried out at suppliers premises and handling the cases of non-conformity.

This function deals both with external counterparts, through a cooperative approach withe the suppliers, and with internal counterparts having contact with all company functions due to the variety of supplies it is responsible of.

The Health and Safety Area backs and supports the Plant Manager in the organization of security measures in the company, through the implementation of a system that assures to all employees an healthy and safe working place.

The office is made up of the Health & Safety Manager and of the Health & Safety Service Operators working in their respective production departments.

The main task of this function is to assess the work-related risks in order to prevent accidents and diseases. Therefore tasks, working places, machines and facilities are constantly monitored, ands risks are analysed according to law, applicable regulations and specific methodologies. The Safety function chooses the most suitable prevention and protection measures for each risk, so that the latter one is removed. reduced or handled, and constantly checks the state of application and the up-date possibilities (in case of accidents, reported events, regulations updates etc..)

The management of safety measures is carried out within a certified system, that is kept active thanks to the close cooperation with the Environmental Office, for a mutual support toward the achievement of corporate goals.

The main objective of the Financial Department is to keep the financial soundness of the company, supporting the growth opportunities without breaching financial obligations. Together with Administration Department and Management Control Department The Financial Department makes a macro-division supporting the Company Management, and called Administration Finance and Control Division and reports directly to the Board of Directors.

The team of the Financial Department is made up of people with a different professional background and work seniority, specialized in specific sectors (from credit to management of financial risks).

The main activities of the Department are i) the understanding of the business financial profile, ii) the analysis of cash flow dynamics over different time horizons, iii) the definition of funding and investment policies in line with Group-wide guidelines, iv) the matching of corporate funding needs with suitable instruments in terms of duration and cost.

It work together with external and internal counterparts, and particularly with the Administration Department, the Sales Department, the Purchase Department and the Management Control Department

The objective of the Sales Department is to distribute the finished goods all over the world through a widespread customer management and customer care service.

The Department Is split according to the type of product. There is a unit dealing with the sale of wire rod in Italy and abroad, while steel for reinforced concrete is handled separately for the Italian and foreign market. A third unit takes care of the sale of drawn steel products and welding wires.

The main tasks performed, besides the handling of the existing customers, are the search and analysis of new markets, the assessment of customers and the following negotiation activities. The Department furthermore managers the after-sale measures and together with the Quality Department takes care of products type approvals. The sales team participates actively in industry trade fairs and events with the aim of acquiring new customers. Due to its function the department works in close contact with the Production Planning Department and the Logistics Office, as well as with the Credit Management and Tax Units.

The Chemical and Geotechnical Laboratory is the reference point for the analysis in our plant. They work in compliance with the requirements of ISO IEC 17025:20217 requlations and obtained the certification for some testing methods.

This functions avails itself of highly competent and qualified persons, who are in charge of analysing from a chemical point of view the raw material used in the production process as well as the steel produced by the company, in order to check the performance and the quality level. The Laboratory also checks the quality of Granella®, i.e. the residue of the steelmaking process that is reused as a raw material through a specific transformation process within the scope of circular economy. The Laboratory furthermore monitors both the parameters connected with the production process, such as the quality of the water used for cooling, and the parameters concerning the assessment of the environmental impact of the company, such us the waste waters and emissions in the atmosphere.

The activities performed by the Laboratory support various company functions. The Laboratory works in close contact especially with the production departments, the Quality Department, the Purchase Office, the Technical Office and the Environmental Department

Officina Pittini per la Formazione is the corporate school and is a professional training entity enrolled in the relevant register of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.

The school is intended as a place where to exchange knowledge, and a s learning workshop, based on the idea that the continuing education is a fundamental aspect for the personal and professional development.

The corporate school supports the company employees during their growth paths through specific individual training plans. The school furthermore handles the relations with educational institutions for work-related learning programmes (PCTO), on-the job training, internships and orientation programs for students of High Schools and Universities.

Moreover the school provides to private citizens and companies day and evening classes, including courses financed by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and by the European Social Fund.

The school works in close contact with the Human Resources Department for build specific growth and development paths for the employees and more in general with all other company functions for their respective training needs.

The Logistics Department is in charge of the handling of goods and of the optimization of transportation costs. The main objective is to deliver the goods to the customer within the required deadline at the minimum cost possible through road, maritime, railway or intermodal transportation.

The office is mainly made up of two units: the Shipping Unit, that is dividend into Front Office, which works in close contact with the transporters, and Back Office, that works together with the Sales Department, from which they receive the sales orders. They shall check the availability of the goods in stock and choose the carrier based on the means of transportation and the economic convenience with reference to the delivery date.

The Control unit is devoted to the check of transportation costs, supplier's invoices, document entry, progress of deliveries and the relating deviation from the budget.

Besides the costs, also the level of service, punctuality, availability and reliability of the transporters is checked.

During the performance of its activities the Logistics Office works in close contact with many company functions, especially with the Sales Department, the Production Planning Department, the Raw Material Purchasing Department and the Management Control Department

The Steel Mill is the first department involved in the steelmaking process, and is made up of different facilities that are connected to each other. Ferriere Nord produces long steel products from iron scrap, a recycled material that is transformed into finished goods. In the scrap yard the iron scrap is put into a basket, that is then charged and melted into the electric arc furnace (EAF). Once the first melting is finished, the crude steel is put into the ladle furnace (LF), where it is refined and made compliant with the desired technical specifications. The last step is the continuous casting: liquid steel is cooled down while poured into an ingot mould, where it takes the form of a parallelepiped, thus allowing the production of billets that will afterwards processed in the Rolling Mill.

Thanks to the continuous technological innovation and the investments in the professional growth of he operators, the production of the Steel Mill increases year by year and it feeds the Rolling Mills, thus enabling the control on the entire process.

The Steel Mill is a production department where equipment management and maintenance works are carried out. The entire process is checked by production operators, who from the pulpits monitor the correct progress of production. The maintenance workshop takes care of all ordinary and extraordinary and preventive maintenance works on the equipment.

The Rolling Mill is a plant for the secondary processing of the half products of the Steel Mill, the billets. In the plant of Osoppo there are two mills: the wire rod Rolling Mill and the bar Rolling Mill.

The first one is a plant for the production of smooth or ribbed wire rod. This product is directly sold or further processed in the Group plants to make meshes and electro welded lattice girders, drawn steel and welding wires.

The second one is devoted to the production of rebars with two different finishes: in bars having different measurements and in coils named Jumbo®.

The Rolling Mills in Osoppo are among the most modern and technologically advanced plant in the world, and the high level of automation allowed to increase the efficiency, the quality of the finished goods and to improve working conditions and safety of the workers.

In this department production and maintenance activities as performed. The supervision of the whole production process, as well as the management of the plant set-ups are carried out by production workers. In the workshops the mechanical and electrical maintenance workers carry out the maintenance on the equipment, in order to assure the correct functioning of the process and the consequent quality standard.

The Cold Rolling Department produces through cold work processing electro welded meshes, coils and electro welded lattice girders starting from the wire rod produced in the Rolling Mill.

All products are made of steel for reinforced concrete and meet the regulations in force in the target countries.

The activities performed in the ambit of cold works mainly include the production on automatic lines and the maintenance of the same. The Production Unit realizes what has been previously planned by the Production Planning, thus optimizing the setting of the production lines and assuring an adequate quality level of the products. The teams and the operator organize their activities with the aim of improving the performance of the department and promoting new solutions that ensure to the company the necessary competitiveness. The Maintenance Unit works on the production lines and on the auxiliary systems serving the plant in order to obtain and keep the maximum level of reliability and efficiency. The technicians of the Maintenance Unit are constantly updated and trained about the new available technologies. All activities carried out in the cold work facilities are performed with a high level of attention towards the issues of safety on the working place.

The Energy Office is the company function devoted to the monitoring and management of energy issues of the plants.

There is the Energy manager, who is responsible of conservation and rational use of energy, checks and optimizes the consumption and promotes conducts and interventions aiming at energy efficiency. The Office furthermore analysis the markets and manages the purchase of energy carriers with the objective to assure supplies, keeping purchase prices under control.

The main fields of competence of the Energy Office are: water, electric power, natural gas, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, emissions trading, oil, technical gases and teleheating. The tasks range from the monitoring of energy consumption, analysis of energy investments up to handling of contracts and incentives.

The Office works in close contact with external and internal counterparts, especially with the Purchase Department, Environment Office, Financial Department, Technical Office, Management Control Department, Corporate Management and Maintenance departments.

The Quality Department is the function that assure the respondence of the products and services offered to customer expectations, in order to meet their requirements and increase their satisfaction. The quality level of the produced goods is a decisive factor for competitiveness both on the internal and international markets. It depends from the continuous technological innovation of the production processes and is assured by an accurate control system during the all stages of the steel reprocessing.

The department is made up of a team and technicians dealing with Quality Control and Quality Management Systems, pursuant to ISO 9000:2015 regulations.

The main tasks of the department include product certifications, testing certificates, laboratory mechanical and metallographic analysis and research activities. The department works in close contract mainly with the Sales Department and supports it handling customer reports. It also cooperates with the production units, since it takes care of the product and process development aiming at achieving a high-class quality.

The Technical Office takes care about the definition, planning and realization of the main investment projects concerning the plant, and is divided into two main sections.

The Technical Division includes the three units electrical equipment, mechanical equipment and facilities, and there work technicians specialized in the different technical matters.

The Project Management Division is made up of Project Managers in change of planning, managing and coordinating the projects, construction sites and job orders.

The Technical Office is in charge of projects concerning various ambits, from infrastructures (industrial constructions or refurbishments, works on the internal road system, railway stations, technological lines) to facilities (building offices or service buildings, projects concerning green areas, environmental projects), up to technical innovation of production systems.

The Office works in close contact with different company departments according to the projects handled and is the point of reference for the involved interfunctional teams.

The Information Technology Services Department is the function in charge of handling the information flows through the use of suitable tools and methods, making use of IT technologies.

It is responsible to support the business processes in the creation of value, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the processes, to assure the business continuity and the security of company IT resources.

The department is divided into three units. The first unit, IT Infrastructure, take care of the individual IT devices, of the helpdesk, of IT security and related policies, and looks after the company IT infrastructure to respond effectively to business requests. Application Developments is the unit that receives and manages the requests of new developments and improvements, suggests and develops the application softwares supporting company processes. The third unit, Project and Demand Management, is the reference point for the other offices to ask for new functionalities and translates the needs into IT tools and technologies.

Due to its crosswise role the department works in close contact with all company functions.

The Marketing Department plans, coordinates and manages both the internal and external communication with the aim of implementing the brand divulgation strategy and the on-going company projects.

The team deals with the press office activities as well as of institutional and internal communication. They take care of the photographic services, company videos and develops graphic and digital projects.

The main activities of the department relate to the management and development od brand identity, according to the various communication channels. They also take care and prepare the materials for fairs and internal and external events, institutional and product printed materials as well as internal infographic projects.

The Marketing Department also takes care of the web site, of the newsletter campaigns and of the management of corporate social media, working in close contact with the Human Resources Department for the Employer Branding projects.

The Management Control Department is the company function that translates the technical requirements into accounting figures and vice versa.

Every single employee in the office is responsible for a production department of the plant in Osoppo, i.e.: Steel Mill, bar Rolling Mill, wire rod Rolling Mill and cold work facilities.

This department has a strategic role since it defines with the Management the medium-long term plan, and an operative role since it translates into concrete and measurable objectives the plan. The main tasks include the drafting of the yearly budget, the monthly forecast reports, the business plan and the "what if" scenarios, the monthly balance sheet, the product margin report and the Management report. The Department sets out company KPIs and departments KPIs, the investment plan and the pay back and analyses the deviations from the plan.

It supports as a staff unit the Management together will all business units, and works in close contact especially with the Administration Department, Sales Department, Production Planning Department, Logistics Office, Raw Materials Purchasing Department, Purchase Office, Technical Office, Energy Office and Production departments.

The aim of the Planning and Programming Department is to plan and programme production as well as the transfer of materials, in order to maximise the customer service and minimize operating costs.

The internal organization structure foresees that each employee is responsible for one or more product classes, that are: billet, wire rod, bars, Jumbo®, meshes, coils and lattice girders.

The Planning and Programming Department projects and control the flows of materials and inventories and at the same time decides how much to produce, when to transfer and how to do so. Finally it is also in charge of checking the work performed by the production departments and by the Logistics Office, and implements any necessary corrective measures to achieve the result.

It works in close contact especially with the production departments at all levels, with the Logistics and Shipping Office, with the Raw Material Purchasing Department, the Sales Department and the Management Control Department

The Raw Materials Purchase Department is responsible of the regular supply of raw materials in terms of quantity and required quality, that are purchased both on national and international markets under the best possible market conditions. The main goal of the Department is to assure production continuity through the purchase of ferrous scrap at competitive prices and within the deadlines required by the departments. Indeed the scrap can be recycled unlimited times and become a raw material for the Steel Mills of the Group in the scope of circular economy.

The office includes two units. The Buyers Unit, who take care of identifying and keeping the contacts with the suppliers, of negotiation the best purchasing terms and supply conditions. The Back Office Unit has an administrative and paper work related role in support of supplies.

The Raw Materials Purchase Department works in close contact with the company functions that are more involved in the production and in particular with Production Planning Department, Management Control Department and the Logistics Office.

The Environment Department is the function in charge of monitoring any emission in the environment (air, water, soil, noise), of the rations use of the resources and the of the sustainable management of the facilities. These aspects are a priority for Ferriere Nord as well as for the whole Pittini Group.

The office is made up of specialized HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) technicians, and acts within the Environmental Management Systems pursuant to UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 provisions.

This department carries out activities such as: management of authorizations and procedures, environmental declarations, environmental compatibility of projects and activities and the realization of the monitoring and control plan. Furthermore they follow and take care of the implementation of Environmental and Energy Management Systems and of the compliance with production provisions.

The department works in close contact with the production departments together with the Health and Safety Area, and it has a strategic and decision-making role for the sustainable development of the plant.

The objective of the Human Resources Department is to build the future of the company with innovative and reliable persons.

The department is made up of three units, each of them responsible for different ambits concerning personnel management. The first unit, Management and Development deals with the search, selection and employer branding, setting out and implementing the necessary strategies to attract, retain and fidelize the employees. This unit also follows the assessment processes and the development of professional competences in order to identify internal growth paths and improve the technical know-how for business development. The second unit, Personnel Management, takes care of the contractual and operations aspects of the employer-employee relationship since hiring. This unit monitors the presences and analyses the working costs. Finally there is the Trade Union Relations office, that is in charge of the legal relationship between employer and employees, and of the organizations representing their respective interests.

The Human Resources Department externally searches for potential candidates, and internally is a point of reference for managers and employees. Thus, due to its manifold nature, this department is in close contact with all company functions.

The feedstock for the production of electro welded mesh are both smooth and ribbed wire rods which are supplied from the group’s wire rod mills.

Smooth wire rod is processed on drawing lines in an intermediate production step to a cold drawn, ribbed wire which in a further step is processed to electro welded mesh.

The ribbed wire rod is processed directly, without any intermediate process, to meshes.

The production process with the associated production planning is carried out in close coordination with the sales department, considering the existing stocks and direct needs of the customers.

The electro welded mesh is manufactured on fully automatic mesh welding lines.

Maintenance and repair works are carried out by in-house staff. Continuous training sessions both for maintenance and production staff ensure continuous improvements and efficient production.

The Purchase Department office takes care of the timely provision of consumables and spare parts for the smooth operation of production and logistics in accordance with the quality standards and under the best conditions on the market. The office cooperates with all other departments within the company as well as with other departments in the Group in order to manage various outsourcing services and investments.

The office is constantly focused on lean and sustainable solutions to optimise the procurement process by researching the market of potential suppliers, comparing and evaluating the offers, negotiating contract terms and pricing and analysing the suppliers’ performance.

The production includes standard mesh as well as customized mesh for special applications e.g., for tunnelling projects.

Standard mesh is produced in a two-step process. Smooth wire rod which is supplied by the group’s rolling mills, is first processed on a drawing machine in order to obtain a spooled wire with properties prescribed by national standards. The spools are loaded to the welding machine where length and cross-wires are automatically welded to mesh panels.

Also the special mesh is produced in a two-step process. In the first step, wire rod is processed into bars in accordance to the requirements of national standards. During a second step the bars are loaded on special welding machines for the production of customized mesh.

All of the processing steps require deep know-how and knowledge of personnel concerning the requirements defined by the national standards.

The task of the Commercial Department consists in the sale of BSTG’s products.

This includes active market cultivation through the acquisition of new customers, the continuous exchange with the existing customer base and, in particular, technical consultancy in the area of special mesh.

The activity of sales also includes the internal coordination of requirements with the production and shipping departments of the sites, as well as the administration department.

The tasks of the Workshop include the repair and maintenance work that must be carried out on the machines used in production.

Preventive maintenance work is an important part of the activities that contribute to the improvement of the availability of machines. This work is carried out in a recurring cycle and is part of the daily tasks of the employees.

Corresponding technical training courses are carried out on an ongoing basis to provide employees with the knowledge they need to meet the challenges of daily repair and maintenance work. Technical knowledge and enjoyment in daily work are the key to success of Pittini Group.

The plant for the mesh production is the heart of production in Kovinar.

Here the reinforced mesh is produces from cold-drawn rebar. The employees and quality controllers regularly monitor the quality of the final products. The plant is partly used also for storage of semi-finished products. The production program is determined according to our customers’ needs. We produce standard mesh panels and custom-made mesh panels. The technicians in the departments work in constant synergy with the maintenance area to ensure the smooth running of the plants and the production of high quality products. The high quality standards are achieved with planned production processes constantly controlled throughout all phases: Pittini steel is subjected to strict controls that ensure the highest reliability in respect of the applications in which it is intended and the Regulations in force.

In bars production plant the smooth hot rolled wire, produced in the other Pittini plants, is thinned, ribbed and cut into bars.

The length and diameter of the rod is determined according to the need of production in the mesh plant. The plant performs also the quality control in order to ensure the traceability of the final product.

Kovinar, a company based in Jesenice (Slovenia) close to the border with Austria and Italy, is the reference for the production of electro welded wire mesh in former Yugoslavia. The company, which joined the Pittini Group in 2007, has 50 years of experience in the building sector.

High quality and customer service are the main features of the technical assistance Kovinar production system, which offers a wide range of products from standard to custom and special wire mesh.

The Linz location is the headquarter of BSTG. It houses the administration, purchasing and sales department of the company. Both standard and special mesh are produced here and delivered to customers in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic.

As at the Graz site, the wire rod is delivered by rail. Outbound delivery takes place exclusively by truck. The location in the Danube region, an economically highly developed area in Austria, and the proximity to Germany and the Czech Republic form a logistical advantage for this location.

In the Finance Department, all business transactions of both locations in Linz and Graz are mapped.

The finance department is responsible for accounting, monthly reporting to the parent company and for the timely and precise preparation of financial statements.

Liquidity planning, including the organisation of payment transactions and fund management, are also among the tasks.

The employees of the finance department have many points of contact with other internal departments, such as. controlling, production, purchasing and sales. This cooperation always results in new impulses, fields of learning and action, so that the professional experience is constantly expanded.

For external parties such as auditors, tax consultants, banks, insurance companies and authorities, the finance department is the first point of contact.

The Sales Area is responsible for selling finished products to the various customers, guaranteeing high quality and minimising delivery times. In addition to managing active customers, the main activities include researching and analysing new market opportunities, evaluating the customer and the subsequent negotiation phases. It is fundamental the understanding of the needs, expectations and requirements of the customers whom the area constantly interfaces with, thus creating relationships of collaboration and trust that are maintained over time.

The task of the Material Testing Laboratory is to ensure the quality standards of the finished products and to provide product certification required by national regulations.

The control work according to the internal quality criteria as well as to the associated standards is carried out in cooperation with the production department in a recurring sequence.

All results are logged, evaluated and reported back to production. The test results are also registered in a database and evaluated statistically in accordance to the standards of the various markets.

Quality control of products is not the sole responsibility of the material testing laboratory but of each individual employee in the production and also maintenance department.

For this purpose, appropriate training is carried out for all employees involved in the production process.

The Maintenance area is where all the activities related to the maintenance and efficiency of the systems are managed. It is divided into two specific areas of intervention: mechanical and electrical. The main tasks concern the study and analysis of the systems, the programming of the periodic interventions to be carried out and a constant comparison with the various production departments to guarantee continuous improvements in terms of efficiency and performance of the systems.

It is essential that the personnel in charge have the necessary skills and are constantly trained to know how to coordinate the interventions to be carried out in order to guarantee production continuity and the desired levels of plant availability.

The Maintenance Department has the responsibility to carry out maintenance work and repairs on the machines in the plant in order to ensure a smooth operation.

The staff consists of locksmiths and electricians.

Due to the long-standing experience of the employees, the service life of wear parts in the machine can be estimated very well and replacements can be provided at an early stage.

Faulty parts are detected during regular inspections of the machines and replaced during scheduled stops.

To a limited extend spare parts are manufactured in the plant’s workshop.

Preventive maintenance is planned with the help of a maintenance software, so shut downs due to breakages can be avoided.

Acciaierie di Verona is part of the Pittini Group since 20215, it is an industrial company with a long siderugical tradition dating back to 1902. Todays it is a reference company for the wire rod, thanks to one of the most innovative rolling mills in the world. This facility is part of a facility and technology renovation plan aiming at improving the quality of the products and upgrade the entire plant while reducing the environmental impact of production activities.
