When it comes to urban transformation in Europe, no other project can rival the Ellinikon in terms of scale or ambition. This gigantic redevelopment is currently underway on the coast of Athens. On the site of the former International Airport of the capital, which operated from 1938 to 2001, an intelligent city is taking shape, complete with a large coastal park, residences, offices, hotels, shopping centres, cultural infrastructure and the first two skyscrapers in Greek history. Within this rapidly developing context, the Riviera Galleria has been assigned a strategic role. Our client, TSICHLAKIS GROUP, based in Rethymno, Crete, one of the biggest cut and bend facility in Greece with a history of 60 years in the steel sector, is involved in the project, which is set to become one of the most iconic shopping and leisure destination in the Mediterranean.
The shopping centre in the Ellinikon
The Riviera Galleria is a key commercial asset in the Ellinikon masterplan. Construction began in 2024, with completion expected in the first quarter of 2026. Spanning 23,000 m² across two levels, the centre will comprise over 100 retail units offering fashion, food, and entertainment. Rather than being a simple shopping centre, it is intended to be a new centre of attraction for both tourists and residents, supporting economic growth and enhancing the coastal area. Located in the heart of a luxury district, the Riviera Galleria forms part of a complex that includes the Vouliagmenis Mall, residential and commercial areas, upscale hotels, the spectacular Riviera Tower and a new one-kilometre beach.
Sustainable design connected to the sea
The project features a sustainable design that establishes a strong connection with the marine landscape, inspired by the movement of the sea, in the form of a wavy canopy. The Riviera Galleria incorporates a range of sustainable solutions, including natural local materials, green spaces, atriums to maximise natural light and ventilation, photovoltaic systems, rainwater collection and intelligent technologies that reduce consumption, ensuring efficiency and harmony with the environment.
Pittini certified steel at the heart of the Riviera Galleria
The project involves the use of approximately 1,000 tonnes of Pittini B500C reinforcing steel bars for the foundations and supporting structure of the building complex. The choice is based on the high quality of our steel and the certifications that guarantee performance, reliability and traceability, ensuring durability and strength, as well as safety and compliance with the highest construction standards.
