From 6 to 22 February 2026, Italy will host the XXV Winter Olympic Games, which for the first time will see Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo as joint venues for the event. Among the works carried out in preparation for the event, the redevelopment of the Cortina Sliding Centre ‘Eugenio Monti’ is one of the most significant interventions, bringing a historic winter sports infrastructure back into operation.
The rebirth of the ‘Cortina Sliding Centre’
The original track, built in the 1920s and home to numerous international events over the years, has been completely rebuilt to meet current technical standards, while retaining a partial resemblance to the historic track. The new Sliding Centre will host bobsleigh, skeleton and luge competitions and is designed to accommodate athletes with disabilities. The track is 1,749 metres long, with 16 curves allowing athletes to reach a maximum speed of 145 km/h.

Pittini steel in the construction phases
The project involved around 135 people between February 2024 and March 2025, with over 300 days of activity on a construction site located in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The lead contractor, Pizzarotti, coordinated 35 subcontractors and 115 suppliers.
Among these was the Pittini Group, which supplied Jumbo® rolled steel in diameters of 10-16 mm, a solution suitable for ensuring rapid installation and continuity during the construction phases. The use of this material contributed to meeting the construction deadlines, a crucial factor for a project linked to an international event such as the Olympic Games.
