The EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification process for PITTINI-branded wire rod, rebars in bars and in coils produced at the Osoppo (UD) facilities has been successfully completed. The EPD is a voluntary environmental certification scheme, based on the UNI EN ISO 14025:2010 standard, and is part of the Community environmental policies.
To know about the life-cycle environmental impact of a Pittini product using the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology is a fundamental precondition for the Pittini Group to be able to offer its customers greater certainty in terms of sustainability. For this reason, Pittini applied for and has obtained the EPD certification for its construction steel, therefore making it possible for data relating to environmental aspects to be validated during the entire life cycle of products such as wire rod and rounds in bars and coils in a detailed and verifiable way.
As to the EPD certification for the Granella product, the documentation and supporting studies, in this case too, were processed in collaboration with the Center of Applied Research of the University of Padua; the certifying partner being ICMQ – Institute for certification and quality branding for products and services for construction.
The use of EPD-certified products allows construction firms in Italy to comply with the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) prepared by the Ministry for Environment and Land Protection of Italy with Ministerial Decree of 11 October 2017; whereas internationally, the EPD provides access to sustainable building rating systems, such as LEED V4 (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
