Job Fairs: a bridge to new professional opportunities

One of the profiles that the HR team met during a job fair was that of Daniele Olivieri, R&D Specialist in the Technical Office of the Osoppo Steelworks. He describes the path that led him from student to employee of the Pittini Group.

Daniele holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Engineering and a master’s degree in Environmental and Energy Engineering, both from the University of Udine. In October 2021, he participated in the FVG job fair organised by the ALIg (Association of Graduates in Management Engineering) of the University of Udine. This important event attracts many companies from the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, including the Pittini Group.

What motivated you to attend the fair and visit the stand of the Pittini Group?

As an engineering student, I was aware of the importance of the fair in my job search and had attended in the past to explore the market and find out about the most sought-after professions. In 2021, however, I was looking for a new, more stimulating job in line with my interests. This is why I submitted my CV to the HR specialists, hoping that it would be the right opportunity. I had visited Ferriere Nord during my studies and was fascinated by the steelworks. After that visit, I knew I wanted to work there. The production cycle is spectacular and makes you want to learn more – there is always something new to discover. When I take students on tours, I can tell immediately who is really interested. If there is a spark, you can see it in their eyes and the questions they ask.

What was your experience of joining the company?

I appreciated the fact that the role I was presented with was clearly defined and matched my skills. After the technical interview and the company visit, I felt that the position was in line with my interests. The selection process went well and I was hired as an R&D Specialist, the role I still hold today. My job involves research and development, so in addition to exploring new solutions to make the work of operators more efficient, I am also involved in process innovation. This ranges from design to practical application on the machinery and systems of the plant.

Would you recommend job fairs as a channel for new professional opportunities?

Job fairs are useful events for meeting local companies. The fair organised by ALIg brings together many different employers, allowing you to discover a wide range of sectors and opportunities in one place. Also, interviewing with the same company at different times will help you to understand their internal development and which roles are most in demand.
