PITTINI wire mesh for the second Divača-Koper railway line

The wire mesh manufactured by Kovinar is an integral part of this very important infrastructure in Slovenia.

The Second Divača-Koper Railway Line (2TDK) Project is designed to upgrade the railway infrastructure of Slovenia and therefore also enhance its development. The main objective is to improve the connection between the port of Koper and Central Europe, by optimising freight transport, reducing transit times and increasing rail capacity, which is a more environmentally sustainable option.

The project is 27.1 kilometres long and includes the construction of seven tunnels covering 20.5 kilometres of underground excavation, as well as viaducts covering 1.2 kilometres. Including the safety and evacuation tunnels, the total length of the tunnels exceeds 37 kilometres, with an elevation differential in excess of 400 metres.

Electro-welded wire mesh supplied by Kovinar

Approximately 35,000 tonnes of steel and 500,000 tonnes of concrete will be used for the construction of this work, with the excavation of approximately 4.2 million cubic metres of soil. The companies involved in the construction project include Kolektor CCP from Slovenia and Yapi Merkezi from Turkey.

Kovinar has achieved an excellent reputation as one of the leading suppliers of wire mesh, valued for its speed of delivery and the quality of its products. The mesh is also shipped from the Ferriere Nord production plant on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on the requirements of the construction site.

The benefits of steel for infrastructure

Steel is the material of choice for viaducts and tunnel support structures because of its strength and durability. In addition, this choice reduces maintenance costs over time, making this type of structural solution more sustainable in the long term.
